Financial Aid and Placement Workshops
Students who have applied for or intend to apply for Financial Aid should attend one of the following workshops, and contact the Financial Aid Office for information required for completing the application or FAFSA.
These workshops will also explain the placement process, which will assure that students register at the course levels appropriate to their preparation and background.

New Student (including Transfer Students) Orientations:
New students are required to attend a New Student Orientation Session. During this time, students will receive an Orientation Guide and Student Handbook which includes information about Eastern and tips on how to be a successful student. Following the New Student Orientation Session, students will meet with their program advisors to discuss registration for classes.

Who Qualifies for Financial Aid?
Qualifying for some type of financial aid to assist with college costs is easier than ever before. Whether it be a grant, a student loan or scholarship, funds are available through federal, state and private sources. Students wishing to renew their funds beyond the first semester must maintain Standards of Progress Guidelines (specific guidelines are published on the back of all student award letters)
What Can Financial Aid Pay For?
Based on an individual's aid, the following items can be all or partially covered:
- Tuition and Fees
- Textbooks
- Transportation Costs (i.e. gas, car repairs)
- Daycare expenses
- Living Expenses
What types of Aid do Eastern Students Qualify for?
Students at Eastern regularly qualify for the following kinds of aid:
- Federal Pell Grants
- Federal Stafford Loan Program (both subsidized and unsubsidized loans)
- WV State Grant Program
- HEAPS (Higher Education Adult Part-Time Student Grant)* for WV residents
- Scholarships - Private
- *Veterans Benefits (including National Guard)
- Vocational Rehabilitation Benefits
- Workforce Investment Board Program
Must I be a Full-Time Student for Aid?
No. Most funds require at least six credit hours of classes a semester to get financial aid. Federal Pell Grants may be available for as little as one class.
How Do I Apply?
- Go to either www.wvapply.com or www.wvmentor.org and submit the online common application for the WV grant, PROMISE scholarship, and/or the (HEAPS) grant programs.
- Pick up and complete a FAFSA form (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The Title IV code to use on the FAFSA is 003816.
- Submit your FAFSA via the web at www.fafsa.ed.gov or mail it in the envelope provided with the FAFSA .
- Complete a one page Eastern Financial Aid Application.
- Receive an award letter notifying you of your aid for each semester.
- REGISTER FOR CLASSES.
- To receive your funds make sure your file is complete.
- Funds will be applied to your tuition account at the end of the first week of classes each semester.
- Students receiving aid in excess of tuition and fees will receive a check in the mail.
If you have previously attended any college or university, you MUST contact those schools and request an official academic transcript.

You Need to Know:
- Any adjustment to your class schedule (adding, dropping, withdrawal from any or all classes) will affect your financial aid.
- A complete Financial Aid file is necessary to hold your class registration.
- Financial Aid Standards of Progress must be maintained to continue to receive financial aid. (See standards printed on the Eastern Financial Aid application.)
- Financial Aid students who totally withdraw will have their aid adjusted according to the Federal Return of Title IV Funds Policy.
