In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s birthday,  and in celebration of diversity, Eastern WV Community & Technical College sponsored an Art and Essay contest last month on the theme of: "What Diversity Means To Me." The college invited two age groups to participate: (1) Current Eastern College Students; and (2) Potomac Highlands Students in Grades 9th–12th (including home-schooled students).

The ages of those who participated in the College Group ranged from 25 to 50, and in the high-school group, from 15-18.

Eastern invited students to submit art work in any kind of medium or combination of mediums (pencil, ink, paint, markers, colored pencils, etc.), including original photographs and collage pieces.

Essayists were invited to submit essays of no more than 750 words in length.

Members of the local arts and writing communities judged the contests and selected the winners.
