Eastern West Virginia Community & Technical College underwent a comprehensive evaluation visit April 10 - 12, 2006, by a team representing the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.  As a result of that evaluation, Eastern received Candidacy status, which is the second of three stages in the process towards accreditation.

In 2002, the College began preparations of the Preliminary Information Form (PIF) which addressed specific Eligibility Requirements to begin the accreditation process.  Upon approval of the PIF in March 2004, Eastern immediately developed a structure to prepare the self study report. For the next two years, Eastern staff, students, faculty, partners and communities engaged in a process of self-study, addressing the Commission's requirements and criteria.

After achieving Candidacy status in 2006, the College began a second Self-Study process again focused on the ultimate goal of achieving full accreditation. That report will appear on this website in February, 2008, in anticipation of a second visit by an HLC team scheduled for April 28 - 30.

The HLC is one of six accrediting agencies in the United States that provide institutional accreditation on a regional basis.  Institutional accreditation evaluates an entire institution and accredits it as a whole.  Other agencies provide accreditation for specific programs.  Accreditation is voluntary.  The Commission accredits approximately 950 institutions in a nineteen-state region. The Commission is recognized by the US Department of Education.

Below, you may click on the links to view the new Self Study Report (2008).  Because it is a large document, it has been separated and linked by chapters. You may also click on links to additional supporting materials.

In advance of the HLC team's visit to Eastern April 28 - 30, the public is also invited to submit third-party comments to the HLC regarding the college's candidacy for initial accreditation.
